Book Club: You Are a Badass

December 1, 2017Lifestyle0

you are a badass

So, recently I’ve gotten into a self-help book kick because why would you not want someone to tell you how to get your life together? I’ll take all the help I can get. When I was inspired to do the book club for the blog, I knew I wanted to start with You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero, a book that I’ve had for awhile. In fact, if you follow me on Instagram, you might remember that I posted a picture of the book in May and here we are in December and I’m finally just posting about it. Oops.. Anyways, I truly believe that this book is for everyone, even if you aren’t into self-help books. Or reading for that matter.

Sincero approaches the idea of tackling life and making it all that you want it to be with humor and light hearted banter, something that helps sucker you in. I will warn you now, she is a “tough love” sort of gal. She is not going to hold your hand and guide you through life. She believes that if you want something in life, you go for it. There’s no such thing as excuses. No bullshit. I know of the biggest things that stood out to me was when she was talking about buying a new car. She was between a Honda or an Audi and despite the fact that she didn’t necessarily have the money for the new Audi, she went for it anyways. Why? Because she felt like she deserved it and that the rest would fall into place. And sure enough it did. She found the money for the car and then some.

Jen (yeah we’re on a first name basis ) makes you sit down and think what it is that you truly want in life. She has an incredible way of reaching out and acting as if she’s speaking to those who are wanting to pursue a path that’s different than the typical 9-5 and for someone who is working on making a career out of blogging and freelancing, it felt like someone was in my corner, cheering me on. There aren’t many people that I’ve met here in Phoenix that understand what it’s like to have a passion that is seen as unconventional. Everyone I graduated college with has an office job that they (most likely) hate so to have that support, even if it’s through a book, was an incredible feeling.

If there’s one thing I regret not doing, it’s following along with the exercises that she gives you. I was in such a rush to finish it that I didn’t think to actually sit down and write down the answers to the questions and I think that took away from the experience of the book as a whole so if there’s one thing I recommend, it’s follow along and do as she says. Trust me, she knows her sh*t.

So how did this book change me? I feel more motivated than ever to go and accomplish everything that I know I can accomplish. This year has been about finding myself, finding my passion, and pursuing it. I’m taking time out of every single day to sit down, take a step back, and look at what I can do, no matter how small, to get one step closer to where I want to be. Law of attraction can truly change your life. If you believe in something, if you put it out into the universe, it will happen for you. And Jen Sincero does an amazing job of portraying this throughout the book. Truth be told, I loved the book so much that I gave my copy away to someone who I thought could use it but I’m going to buy another one and underline and highlight the snot out of it so that when I’m doubting myself, I will have my pick me up. You should do the same.

My overall rating: 5/5

You can buy the book here: You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life.

Have you guys read this book? What did you think of it? I’d love to hear other people’s opinions! Can’t wait to share next weeks book. Until then. XO
